Arizona Diamondbacks Jerseys


  • It was on March 31, 1998 when the Diamondbacks of Arizona played their initial campaign. They hosted Colorado in thier home white jerseys, losing to the Rockies nine to two.
  • It wasn't until the fourth of April, 1998 when Arizona eventualy were victorious. On that day they were able to defeat the Giants by of score of three to two.
  • In their initial campaign the Diamondbacks defied the odds and put together a streak of seven games without a defeat. That tied a record for first year teams.
  • The moniker "Diamondbacks" turned out to be the choice of 1000's of fans who sent in their pics in a name the team contest. Other popular choices were Coyotes, Rattlers, Phoenix and Scorpions.The beauty of this name is that not only is the snake common in the area, but also the world diamond exists in it's name, thus naturally lending itself to a baseball association.
  • In thier second year, Randy Johnson joined after getting Arizona to agree on him keeping his outrageous haircut and scruffy beard.
  • In May 2000 was the first triple play. At the plate was Mark McGwire.
  • Another big event was In 2000 when Luis Gonzales was the first to hit a single, a double, a triple, and a home run in a single game. Also in 2000 the world saw these events happen:
    * American Football star Derrick Thomas was killed in an auto accident when his sport utility vehicle overturned in icy conditions while driving in Missouri. He died a few days later.
    * Braves reliever John Rocker got himself suspended by MLB commissioner Bud Selig after he gave an interview to SI and made insulting remarks about foreigners, homosexuals and minorities.
    * Mount Hekla erupted in Iceland.
  • The teams namesake rattlesnake is one of the most common types of snake found in this state. It has shapes that look like diamonds on it's back, and usually stays away from areas with human acitvity. It is however, a very poisonous snake and if threatened will defend itself with its fangs and venom.
  • The clubs mascot is named Baxter, and he is a bobcat. The pun on the name bobcat is that the team plays at Bank One Ballpark, which is locally referred to as the B.O.B.
  • Th club began play in 1998 and their lineup included Devon White, Jay Bell, Travis Lee, Matt Williams, Brent Brede, Karim Garcia, Jorge Fabregas, Edwin Diaz, and Andy Benes.
  • In 1999, after being first in all of baseball in SO, IP, and CG, Mr. Johnson wins his 2nd Cy Young, and this clubs 1st. He would win another in 2000. Other events in 1999 included:
    * Wade Boggs was the 1st ballplayer to hit a home run as his 3000th hit.
    * Canadian hunters came across the well preserved remains of a 500 year old hunter who had been preserved in a glacier.
    * Theshow "Who Wants to Be a Millionaire" started a 2-week stint on ABC.
  • When the club won the World Series in 2001 it became the fastest club in history to do so. No expansion team had ever won a Series that quickly before.
  • What do the players Vicente Padilla, Jim Parque, John Patterson, Jose Parra, Bronswell Patrick, Tony Pena, Dante Powell, Ricky Pickett, Dan Plesac, and Bret Prinz have in common? They all played for this club and all had last names ending in the letter P.
