  • The Minnesota Timberwolves chose to put Timberwolves on their jerseys after conducting a state wide contest for the best name. Over 6,000 people submitted choices. In all about 1200 names were submitted before the Minnesota Timberwolves was chosen for their jerseys. Other suggestion included the Fisher Practices, Flakes, Frozen Chosen, Gandy Dancers, Heart and Souls Golden Doves, Gulls, Kangaroos, Leopards, Ice Breakers, Melt, Seasonals, and the Snow.
  • The Timberwolves logo was extremely appropriate for the jerseys of the Minnesota club as it is home to the biggest number of them in the lower 48 states. The design of the 1 st logo was also held and after being checked over by the suits at NBA headquarters, was given the green light.
  • Who would the Minnesota Timberwolves put their jerseys on first? It was decided during the 1989 draft when they chose UCLA point guard Jerome Richardson making him the tenth pick overall in the draft that year.
  • The opening day roster for this club in their initial season was made up of the following names: Adrian Branch, Randy Breuer, Tony Campbell, Tyrone Corbin, Steve Johnson, Gary Leonard, Brad Lohaus, Sidney Lowe, Sam Mitchell, Tod Murphy, Pooh Richardson, Scott Roth, Donald Royal, Brad Sellers, and Doug West.
    * From that list, Sam Mitchell later became the 6th head coach in the Raptors organization. He had enjoyed a 13 year career before turning his attention to coaching.
  • Kevin Garnett is the lone player from this club to have played in 8 All Star Events. They include the 2004, 2003, 2002, 2001, 2000, 1998, and the 1997 All Star games, and the 1996 All Star Rookie Game.
  • The club finished the 99/00 campaign with the best won loss record the they had ever compiled. They finished with 50 wins and 32 losses.
  • Big name stars have not been common for this club, but a fair all-time team can still be compiled. It would look like this; at Guard Terrell Brandon, also at Guard Stephon Marbury, playing at Forward Kevin Garnett, also at forward Tom Gugliotta, and at Center Felton Spencer.
  • Interestingly enough, of all the pro sports clubs that played in Minneapolis, none have named themselves after the city, opting instead to use the name of the state. The clubs are the WNBA's Lynx, MLB's Twins, the NFL's Vikings, and the NHL's Wild. That streak goes all the way back to the NHL's North Stars that used to play in the city.
  • A record crowd of 49,551 showed up to watch the club play Denver on April 17, 1990. That was at the old Metrodome. Now that they play at the Target Center, the record is 20,391 against the Lakers on March 12th, 2004.
  • The franchise made history during the 1989 / 1990 season when a total of 1,072,572 fans came throught the gates during the sesason which was an average of 26,160 per game.
  • The club has enjoyed nine buzzer beating moments in their brief history. They include the following moments:
    * The first came on March 30, 1990 against Dallas when Sam Mitchell scored with no time left on the clock to break a tie and win the game 84 - 82.
    * The second time came the next season in a game against Washington. This time it was Tony Campbell who was the hero of the day breaking a deadlocked score with a big 0 on the clock.
*On February 13th, 1992 Pooh Richardson stepped up and made a three point shot to pull ahead and win the game 96 - 93.
    * Almost 6 years would pass before Tom Hammonds was able to hit an eighteen foot jumper to defeat Milwaukee by 2.
    * Malik Sealy would have the honour two times within a month. The first occasion was against Orlando on December 27, 1999 and the second time was on January 17, 2000 against Indiana.
