• Philadelphia 76ers jerseys first appeared as Syracuse Nationals jerseys. The first true 76ers jerseys as we know them were inspired by Betsy Ross, who created the first American flag. The jerseys were adorned with stars in a circle on both the jerseys and on the shorts. The stars were a big hit and became a staple of future sixers jerseys.


• A two coloured red and white uniform was worn for 1 campaign by the 76ers. It wasn't well accepted by the players who thought it was too flashy and too uncomfortable.


• This team, known initially as the Syracuse Nationals, began life in the NBL in 1946. By 1949, they sensed something was wrong and got out of the ill - fated NBL and joined the BAA. The BAA sooned changed their name to the National Basketball Association.


• The Nationals packed up and high tailed it to Pennsylvania in the year 1963 , exactly one year after the Warriors had fled to sunny and warn San Francisco. It was then that they changed their nickname after running a contest. The name was chosen in honor of America's birthday in 1776.


• The rivalry between this club and the Boston Celtics dates back to when Chamberlain was traded from the San Francisco Warriors to the Sixers.


• This franchise had both one of the best clubs ever to play the sport (the 1966 team went 68 - 13) and one of the worst; the 1972 version won only 9 games while losing seventy three.

• Wilt Chamberlain was dominated the entire basketball league and all the cities newspaper headlines. Wilt the Stilt" was bigger than pro basketball itself.


• Darryl Dawkins was one of the most colorful men to ever play for this club, and probably one of the most entertaining men ever to play pro ball! Naming himself "Chocolate Thunder" and also "Double D", Darryl claimed that he was from the planet Lovetron.

• The Wachovia Center has 2,000 more seats and is more than 300,000 square feet larger than the old Spectrum. It also boats:
