• The Portland Trail Blazers and their jerseys first played in the league in 1970. As with all expansion clubs, the Portland Trail Blazers and the athletes in their jerseys, had trouble taking on the more established organizations.

• They couldn't find their groove the next playoff season after a steller regular campaign. They quickly exited and for the next few years in a row did the same thing consistently.
• By the 1987 / 1988 season, the organization started to emerge once again as being competitive. They did so on the backs of up and comers like Clyde Drexler and Terru Porter. Other notable events in 1987 included:
  * President Reagan put his name on a classified document that let America sell weapons to Iran.
  * The Soap "Bold and Beautiful" made it's debut.
  * Baseball's Cal Ripken had a streak of 8,243 consecutive innings broken. His consecutive games streak would continue for some time.
  * "Star Trek: The Next Generation," made it's debut. The show started slowly but once trekkers caught on, it eclipsed the original in popularity, originality, and the number of episodes made.
• Many animals that are naturally found in America's Northwest were considered as potential mascots. For example, raccoons, eagles, hawks, bobcats, and mountain lions were all looked at with a view to how fan friendly and athletic they were. Ultimately a mountain lion was concluded to best embody all that was needed in a mascot. The new character was named "Blaze," and is said to be the first of a new type of cat, the "Trail Cat."

• An all star lineup of players who played for this club would include at guard Terry Porter, at guard Clyde Drexter, at Forward Kiki Vandeweghe, also at Forward Rasheed Wallace, and at Center Bill Walton who played with the club from 1974 - 1979. That would leave on the bench Rod Strickland, Geoff Petrie, Cliff Robinson, Maurice Lucas, and Mychal Thompson.
• Retired uniform numbers for this franchise include #1 Larry Weinberg, #13 David Twardzik, #15 Larry Steele, #20 Maurice Lucas, #22 Clyde Drexler, #32 Bill Walton, #36 Lloyd Neal, #45 Geoff Petrie, and number 77 belonging to Mr. Jack Ramsay.
• The franchise is one of the most successful in all of basketball posting winning season after winning season since their initial campaign. Their winning percentage all time ranks among the top for all teams in the NBA.
