  • Toronto Raptors jerseys were not the first jerseys to be worn in Toronto pro basketball. That honor belongs to the defunct Toronto Huskies who played in the BAA, the predesecor to the NBA, for one year in 1946. The game on November 1, 1946 against the New York Knickerbockers at Maple Leaf Gardens was the National Basketball Associations first game ever.
  • Basketball has plenty of history in Canada, for example back in 1891 it was Canadian Dr. James Naismith who invented the game in the first place.
  • The Toronto Raptors and Vancouver Grizzlies both joined the National Basketball Association in time for the 1995-96 season. They were the first non American cities to join since the Toronto Huskies were members of the BAA.

  • The club was named as the result of a contest. The chosen name beat out other finalists like Beavers, Bobcats, Dragons, Scorpions, Tarantulas, Terriers, Towers, and Huskies. The name was a popular choice since the movie "Jurassic Park" was still very popular.

  • The team plays at the Air Canada Centre which cost $265 million to put up and was totally funded by the private sector.

  • The ACC facility is one of only 2 sports venues in Canada that houses a Rickards Brewhouse. Rickard's Red, Gold and Pale are brewed right at the arena and served to guests fresh and frothy.
  • There are only 9 clubs teams in pro basketball that have their very own practice court built in the venue. (Dallas, Denver, Atlanta,Washington, Phoenix, Cleveland, Indiana, and Minnesota are the others). Features of the practice court include an regulation size court, a full training area, and a scoreboard with shot clocks on both of the basketball nets.
