Utah Jazz Jerseys

  • The Utah Jazz played for 5 years as the New Orleans Jazz from 1974 - 1979. The jerseys were purple and white, with the home versions simply bearing the team embelm. The J on Utah Jazz jerseys was in the shape of a musical note.
  • By 1996 the Utah Jazz jerseys experienced a change. A mountain scene took the place of the previous logo the musical note J was gone in favour of simply JAZZ.
  • The New Orleans Jazz have retired the following jerseys: #1 Frank Layden, #7 Pete Maravich, #14 Jeff Hornacek, #35 Darrell Griffith, and #53 Mark Eaton.
  • Over 20 years ago on 3/7/74, this club became the eighteenth club belonging to the NBA in exchange for a six million plus fee. Their first move was to trade for a man who would be a cornerstone for the franchise for many years to come. This was Pete Maravich, and he was the very 1st athlete to sign with the fledgling club.
  • Pete was an absolute hot dog in the best sense of the word. His crowd pleasing antics included behind the back passes, and through the walking sticks moves.
  • The team mascot is a bear, and is named... uh, bear.
  • Question: They all wore #22 for this club. Question: What do Curtis Borchardt, John Crotty, John Drew, , Dave Jamerson, Henry James, Bernard King, Stu Lantz, Carl Nicks, Carey Scurry, Brooks Thompson, Eric White, and Nate Williams all have in common?
  • Mark Eaton is the clubs leader in shots that were blocked with three thousand and sixty four.
  • The organization has only employed six head coaches in their history. They are Scotty Robertson, Bill Van, Brenda Kolff, Elgin Baylor, Tom Nissalke, Frank Layden, and Jerry Sloan.
  • This club can field a team of ex-pats as good as any. How does John Stockton, Pete Maravich, Adrian Dantley, Karl Malone, and center Mark Eaton sound? That means that they would still have Darrell Griffith, Jeff Hornacek, Thurl Bailey, Truck Robinson, and Rich Kelley in reserve.
  • The state has a rich history. Here are some facts, when it joined the union it became the 45th state to enter. That happened on January 4, 1896. The population of the state is 2,233,169, ranking it as the 34th biggest state in terms of people. One of the more famous parts of the states history involved something called "The Donner Party". Have you heard of it? Here is a brief explanation of what happened.
    * The Donner Party began as part of a biger wagon train that headed off across America in 1846. They did not stay with the group though, and the large main group divided into 2 different smaller groups. The one led by Jacob Donner took a more southerly but untried route. The route went straight across the Wasatch Mountains. It was much harder than expected and losses where heavy. The became too exhausted to continue and the winter caught up to them. They were rescued in 1847 but by then over thirty people had died.
