  • Washington Wizards jerseys have not been around for as long a time as other jerseys. Having started life as the Chicago Packers in 1961, the quickly changed their name to the Zephyrs the next year. Moving to Baltimore in 1963 they became known as the Bullets, a name that remained when the became the Capitol, and Washington Bullets over the next few years. They finally became the Washington Wizards in 1997 and the jerseys have been worn by the team since then.
  • Washtington has retired the following jerseys: # 11 belonging to Elvin Hayes, #25 worn by Gus Johnson , and #41as sported by Wes Unseld .
  • The team changed names from the Bullets to the Wizards in an attempt to promote a non-violent image.
  • Michael Jordan came out of retirement again and played two seasons with this club, including the 01/02 and 02/03 campaigns. Even at the age of forty, Michael still led the team in many offensive categories.
  • The history of this time is storied and can boast having had a huge number of talented athlets run up and down the court for this team. There were 3 former members of this team who were included on an exclusive " 50 Greatest Players in NBA History" list that the NBA came up with. Those players were Earl Monroe, Wes Unseld and Elvin Hayes. The 2 at the end of that list were with the team when they won the championship in 1978.
  • Interestingly enough, only 15 clubs have ever won a championship. This club is one of them.
  • The club in it's first year was referred to as the Chicago Packers, they took that nickname in honour of the famous meat packing area in that city.
  • In 1978, when this club won it's one and only championship - the following events were in the news:
    * There was a combined suicide and murder of hundreds of followers of a Jim Jones got them to drink cyanide laiced fruit drink. Jim Jones then killed himself.
    * The 1st baby created in a test tube via vitro fertilization was in this year.
    * Medicial science introduces ultrasound.
    * In New York, the Love Canal is declared federal disaster area as it is evacuated.
    * I'm Your Boogie Man, Dancing Queen, and Stayin' Alive where at the top of the charts, and disco was all rage man!
  • The mascot for this club is a thing called "G-Wiz", we are not sure what it is.
  • The MCI Center is where this club plays, and is home also to the Capitals, Mystics, and Hoyas. The Basketball teams private area has a locker room, training room, and steam room. The NHL's Capitals private locker room also includes a changing room, dressing rooms, training rooms, and private team lounge.
  • Only one title has been won by this club, it was in 1978. Other than that, this club has not won a National Basketball Association Title or Championship.
