  • Red Sox jerseys were worn at Fenway's first night game when it was played on the night of June 13, 1947.
  • When Boston first got a baseball team, they were called the Somersets, and the Pilgrims. Jerseys with those club nicknames on them are hard to find.
  • Boston was the scene of one of Baseball's first strikes, which lasted for a few hours during the World Series of 1918. Players from both Boston and Brooklyn took off their jerseys and wanted a bigger share of the World Series money.
  • All Star and Hall of Famer Carl Yastrezmski was the American leagues sole .300 hitter in 1968 batting. That year Carl batted his way to a less than impressive .301 average while wearing his Red Sox jersey.

  • Twice in Fenways Park's history, there have been fires. On the eight of May, 1926, the bleachers in left field were badly damaged, and then on the fifth of January, 1934, a four alarm fire spread through the construction project that was going on at the time.
  • It's common trivia knowledge that Ted Williams hit a home run in his last at-bat, in the last home game of the 1960 season. But a lesser known fact is that Williams hit a homer in what might have been his last at bat, on April 30, 1952. That was the day before he reported to the Marines for fighter pilot duty in the Korean War. That day was "Ted Williams Day" and the home run was a perfect way to cap off the party. The assumption at the time was that the 33yr old would not play after the war. Other notable events of 1954 included:
    * The sitting president, Dwight Eisenhower, suggested taking American citizenship away from convicted Communists.
    * Elvis Presley recorded a demo track, taking time off from his job driving a truck.
    * The TV dinner was available for the first time.
    * Hank Aaron began his assault on the Babe's home run record.
    * Lassie first appeared on television screens across the country.
  • The club has only played in two ballparks in it's history. The first was Huntington Avenue Grounds , which has the distinction of being host to the first AL/NL World Series held in 1903. In 1912 the franchise moved it's operations to Fenway Park and has remained there ever since.
  • The 2004 season changed the lives of fans of this club everywhere. They won a modest 98 games during the season which was enough to secure the wild card posistion in the post season. After sweeping Anaheim in the ALDS, they came back from a 3 games to nil deficit to beat the Yankees in 7 for the AL crown. They went on to win 8 in a row during that span as they swept the Cards to win the Series for the first time in a lifetime.
  • Manny Ramirez was named the Most Valuable Player of the 2004 World Series.
    * Terry Francona, a stellar player in his own right with a number of teams during his youth, managed the team to victory in his first season as the team's manager.
