  • The Pittsburgh Pirates have retired many jerseys. They include Billy Meyer # 1, Ralph Kiner #4, Willie Stargell (Player, Coach) #8, Bill Mazeroski #9, Pie Traynor (Player, Mgr.) #20, Roberto Clemente #21, Honus Wagner #33, and all of Danny Murtaugh's Pirates Jerseys with #40 on the back.
  • The Pirates Jerseys around 1900 were short-sleeved with no trim except for a dark blue collar. Stockings were dark blue with red stripes and the cap was blue with a white "P". A "PBC" monogram signifying the Baseball Club was also added to the left sleeve.
  • In 1930 the uniforms brightened up with more colours, trim and graphics. The name "Pirates" was placed across the jersey in an arc of fancy red and blue capital letters. Solid blue belts were included and piping trim on the uniforms included blue and red.
  • In 1995 the Pirates went retro, and removed the names from the back of the jerseys.
  • Cooperstown has the following gear from the Pirates:
    * A cap, jersey, and spikes (pictured) won by Hall of Fame shortstop Honus Wagner.
    * A ball from John Candelaria's no-hitter, August 9, 1976.
    * A bat used by Hall of Fame third baseman Pie Traynor in the 1925 World Series.
  • They began life playing the 1887-1890 seasons at Recreation Park, which had a seating capacity of 17,000. They moved next to Exposition Park located on the North Shore of the Allegheny. For the next 61 years they played at Forbes Field with a seating capacity of 35,000 and then from 1970-2000 they moved to Three Rivers Stadium which could hold some 47,971. Since 2001 They've played at PNC Park, a retro park that holds 38,496.
  • PNC Park, opened in spring of 2001, is a classic-style retro park, with an intimate feel that tips it's cap to the progressiveness of the city while staying true to the spirit of early baseball field originals such as Forbes Field, and Fenway Park.
  • The team has been known as the Alleghenies changing the name to it's current one in 1891.
  • 20 different players have hit for the cycle as part of this team.
  • They have 34 players in the hall of fame including Waite Hoyt, Joe Kelley, George Kelly, Ralph Kiner, Chuck Klein, Freddy Lindstrom, Al Lopez, Connie Mack,Heinie Manush, and the famous Rabbit Maranville.
  • An authentic dugout jacket from the World Champion 1960 club is available and made of solid black melton wool with tan leather sleeves, black and gold striped knit cuffs, collar, and waist, and black leather pocket welts.  Other events in 1960 going on at the time inlcuded:
    * Sen. John F. Kennedy made the announcement of his candidacy for the Democratic presidential nomination.
    * The flag that had 50 stars was unveiled in Philadelphia. It was added in recognition of Hawaii joing the union.
  • There initial roster included Mark Baldwin, Pud Galvin, Silver King, Harry Staley, Scott Stratton, Tun Berger, Jocko Fields, Connie Mack, Doggie Miller, Jake Beckley, Lou Bierbauer, Sam LaRocque, John Newell, Charlie Reilly, Frank Shugart, Ed Spurney, Pete Browning, Fred Carroll, Pop Corkhill, Ned Hanlon, Dan Lally, Al Maul, and Piggy Ward.
