- Dateline March 31,1998: Tampa Bay Devil Rays jerseys are donned for the first time as the Rays lose to the Detroit Tigers 11-6 in Tampa Bay's first regular season Major League game. Wilson Alvarez, wearing the home jersey, throws the first pitch in Devil Rays history - a ball to Detroit's Brian Hunter.
- The following Tampa Bay Devil Rays jerseys are in the Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, New York.
* Outfielder Rocco Baldelli's who set a record for hits in the month of April by a rookie. That was in 2003.
* Fred McGriff's when he hit his 400th career home run, on June 2, 2000.
* A warm-up jersey used by R. Arrojo in 1998, when he became the first rookie on an expansion club to be an All-Star.
- The following Tamp Bay Devil Rays jerseys are retired:
* #12 - Wade Boggs, that's it.
- A contest was held to pick the team name, although it finished 4th Devil Rays owner Vince Naimoli liked it, and the name Rays was chosen with "Devil" winning in a phone poll over "Mana" to go in front of it.
- The team mascot is named Raymond, who is often played by up to 3 different people throughout the season.
- The roof of the dome is lit orange after a win at home, symbolic of the ballpark's title sponsor, Tropicana Dole Beverages.
- Robert Szasz is the most famous fan this team has. The displaced Canadian has made a practice of mercilessly heckling one player in each series. it was so bad during one series that Jose Guillen bowed to the pressure and gave the heckler a bat to stop the abuse.
- Tropicana Field is the 1st park in the big leagues in over twenty seasons to have as a feature fake turf and base paths that are 100% real dirt. It has a new, normal grass like looking product called FieldTurf. The 5 big league stadiums that have artificial green carpet have only dirt cut-outs around the 3 bases and also in the center of the diamond where the guy who throws the stands.
- The seats that are directly to the rear of home plate are among the seats that are the closest to the action in all of baseballs major legues. There is only 50' of room between the plate and the first row of fans.
- The teams mascot is named Raymond. He has been the official mascot since 1988. According to MLB's site, he is leading the league in the number of hot dogs he can eat during a game at 14.8. this point was also made in item #5.
- This clubs first opening day lineup was made up of the following journeyman and veteran players. At second base wa Miguel Cairo. At third base was future Hall of Famer Wade Boggs. At first base was Fred McGriff. Mike Kelly was in left, with Paul Sorrento hitting as the designated hitter. John Flaherty was catching, with Dave Martinez in right field. Kevin Stoker was playing Short, and Mr. Wilson Alvarez started the game as pitcher. During all of this, in center was Quinton McCraken.
