  • The Toronto Blue Jays do not retire jerseys in the common sense of the word. They have what is called a 'Level of Excellence' to which they have elevated 5 players and 2 non-player personnel.
  • 'Retired' jerseys include George Bell's, Dave Steib's, Joe Carter's, and the one belonging to Cito Gaston.
  • The Toronto Blue Jays have changed the name on their jerseys from Blue Jays, to simply Jays - having dropped the Blue - hoping to revitalize the brand, and prompt a surge in jersey sales.
  • The SkyDome was opened in 1989 and set the standard for futuristic ballparks with it's retractable roof. As fate would have it though, retro parks came into vogue almost immediately and the Skydome became the last of a dying breed. Local fans have long since ended thier love affair with the park that was the place to be seen for 5 years after it was built. Since then, the crowds have been scarce.
  • The Skydome boast the largest scoreboard in North America, and second only to a scoreboard in Japan for worldwide honors.
  • They won back to back World Series championships in 1992, and 1993 - and have never lost a World Series. They've won both they have been involved in.
  • Hired guns over the years that came in for one year or sometimes less have included Ricky Henderson, Paul Molitor, and Dave Winfield.
  • It was at a game at Skydome where the idea for this site first began, we heckled the bullpen and were told we were the worst hecklers they'd ever heard.
  • Before moving to the Skydome, games were played at Exhibition Stadium. That park was built for football and quickly renovated for baseball games when the expansion team was awarded. The seagulls and the winds off of Lake Ontario made for some cold games for both players and fans.
  • Dave Winfield was once arrested for cruelty to animals after hitting and killing a seagull with a baseball between innings at Exhibition Stadium.
  • The team is named after a bird that comes 10" in length with a black bill which is very sturdy. The bird has a crest that is coloured and has a black area around his eyes. His under-area is whitish and so is the end of it's tail. It does have dark legs and is a very social bird.
    * It's got a bad name for being a bird that destroys other birds eggs and nestlings, but the reputation is not deserved. They only get a tiny amount of their yearly food from those sources. It usually sticks to a vegetarian diet and likes acorns, beech nuts, and seeds.
    * Their domain goes all the way through North America and includes forests, parks, and areas of dense human populaton stretching over eastern North America from Newfieland to the Canadian praries, and all the way south to Florida and the eastern part of Texas. They like mixed woodlands with lots of oaks.
